It’s easy to feel nostalgia for certain elements of our youth. But nobody has ever longed for a return to the glory days of a face fully broken out in acne.
Nobody misses it. And, unfortunately, many of us are never really done with it. Acne can hang around for the long haul. It’s just a fact of life for many dudes.
Teens with acne may feel like freaks, but they aren’t. The same holds true for adults, and for the last few decades, adult acne has been on the rise. Sorry, guys. No shame in having it, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to beat it back.
So let’s take a look at some things guys can do to keep adult acne at bay.
Then and Now
Acne is acne, no matter the age of the sufferer. Those pimples popping up now are the same foes you dealt with in high school. Clogged pores resulted in acne then. And they result in acne now. Keeping your face clean was and will always be critical. Our charcoal face wash may not have been there for you then, but it’s here for you now.Try Our Charcoal Face Wash
What’s leading to those clogged pores now, though, may be a little different.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) points out that potential causes of adult acne include stress, genetics, products you’re using on your hair and skin and side effects from medications. Let’s dive into the stress component. The AAD says when responding to stress “our bodies produce more androgens (a type of hormone). These hormones stimulate the oil glands and hair follicles in the skin, which can lead to acne.”
So if you’re going through an especially stressful time, that may have something to do with your breakouts. The acne may be the same, no matter your age, but adult stress can be a little more REAL. This is not to say your adolescent self didn’t know stress, but the stresses of adulthood are often magnified.

What do you do about it? Consider the potential causes listed above and adjust accordingly. But on top of that, you need the right products. Use our charcoal face wash twice daily and exfoliate with a bamboo scrub a couple of times per week. Exfoliating helps you root out dead skin cells that are waiting for an opportunity to clog things up. And then once per week, you want to go even deeper with a peel-off face mask.Buy The Peel-Off Face Mask
It’s all about doing what you can to keep your pores healthy. Same as it ever was.
You also want to take hydration seriously. Dry skin encourages ramped up oil production from your sebaceous glands. And overactive sebaceous glands are a sure recipe for acne. So get the right moisturizer and USE IT.
Our oil-free moisturizer for dry skin is the perfect companion to our charcoal face wash. Using them in tandem on a twice daily basis will go a long way toward stuffing your adult acne in a locker.

So there you have it. Acne isn’t a fun reminder of your youth. And it may be caused by one of the least enjoyable aspects of being a grown @$$ man: stress. While we can’t make all the worry float away, we can do our part to mitigate any amount of stress a bad complexion is heaping onto your life.
Incorporate the right products into a regular skin care routine. And if your stress levels are high, maybe try meditation.
